What is Gear?
Gear refers to the gear on the rim of the continuous mesh transmission of motion and power of the mechanical components. Gears are widely used in mechanical transmission. By combining gears with different tooth numbers, different transmission ratios and speed changes can be achieved. There are many kinds of gear, such as common spur gear, helical gear, bevel gear, and so on.
What are gears made of?
Gear teeth: the raised part of the gear used for meshing, usually arranged in a radial shape, its shape, size, and distribution directly affect the transmission performance of the gear.
Tooth slot: The space between two adjacent gear teeth, which together with the gear teeth form the tooth profile of the gear.
Root circle: The circle where the bottom of the groove is located, determines the size and strength of the root of the tooth.
Tip circle: The circle where the tip of the tooth is located, is used to determine the outside diameter of the gear.
Index circle: is the reference circle in the end face to calculate the geometric size of the gear, on the circle, the modulus and pressure Angle are standard values.
Base circle: A circle of pure rolling formed by the generating line of an involute. For an involute gear, the profile curve is formed by the involute on the base circle.
Tooth surface: the side surface between the top cylinder and the root cylinder on the tooth is the key part of transmitting power and movement, and its accuracy and smoothness have an important impact on transmission efficiency and smoothness.
Hub: is the main part of the gear, plays the role of supporting the gear and maintaining its shape, usually composed of hub body and bearing seat.
Rim: is part of the outer diameter of the gear, usually thicker than the tooth surface part, which increases the stiffness and load-carrying capacity of the gear.
