Structure of the DC Machine

1. Stator

Frame: The frame is the outer shell of the DC motor, supporting and fixing the main poles, commutating poles, and end caps. It is also part of the magnetic circuit.

Main Poles: These generate the magnetic field in the air gap, with the pole core and excitation winding forming the main parts.

Commutating Poles: These improve commutation and reduce sparking between the brushes and commutator.

End Caps: End caps support the motor and hold the bearings and brush assembly.

Brush Assembly: This transfers DC voltage and current, consisting of brushes, brush holders, rods, and supports.

2. Rotor

Armature Core: The core forms the main part of the magnetic circuit and holds the armature windings.

Armature Windings: These generate the electromagnetic torque and induced electromotive force, playing a crucial role in energy conversion.
